Storm damages homes in Qld's south-east
Severe thunderstorms have damaged homes and cut power to almost 6,000 properties
across south-east Queensland.
Four storm cells are moving across the south-east. In some areas, 40-60mm of rain
has fallen in just 30 minutes.
The roofs of three homes were damaged at Clifton, between Warwick and Toowoomba, an
Emergency Management Queensland spokeswoman said.
She said more reports of damage could come in as people returned home from work.
"We're not sure how hard it's hitting and whether it's carrying all the wind," she
said.
"Certainly we are ready to respond."
Earlier on Thursday, the Bureau of Meteorology said "very dangerous" thunderstorms
were forecast to bring destructive winds, very heavy rain, flash flooding and large
hailstones to Brisbane and its surrounds.
More than 5,700 homes in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast and Logan were without power
at 5.50pm (AEST) Thursday.
Residents have been advised to seek shelter, secure outdoor items and move their
cars under cover and away from trees.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Darling Downs and
Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields,
Central West, Wide Bay and Burnett and Maranoa and Warrego districts.
