Princess Haya unveils charity auction
Dubai, Dec 11, 2008 (WAM) - The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) on Wednesday unveiled the unique luxury items to be auctioned at Cinema Against AIDS Dubai 2008, under the patronage of Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai according to a report in “The Gulf Today.”
The second annual event will raise funds for amfAR, the world's leading organisation dedicated to HIV/AIDS research, education and public policy advocacy. Cinema Against AIDS is its flagship event, which is held at film festivals around the world in the company of the world's most famous people.
Shivani Pandya, DIFF’s managing director, anticipates a fabulous evening with the stars, "amfAR is an event where the world's most famous faces come together to make a difference, and Dubai's philanthropic connoisseurs will be in the centre of a world-renowned event that has a tangible, positive impact on the world."
Those in search of exclusive couture pieces should set their sights on the Cartier. An engraved, unique-to-amfAR version of the iconic Cartier LOVE bracelet will be up for auction as well as a sumptuous fox fur capelet by Dries Van Noten. A similarly exclusive, limited edition hand-painted dress from Balenciaga's Paris runway show has been offered to amfAR exclusively. The dress took two months to make and is the only piece of its silhouette in the world.
Another spectacular accessory is the futuristic Suzuki DRZ 400 SM prototype motorbike used in the film Terminator Salvation: the Future Begins, starring Christian Bale. The mototerminator is a collectible original prop used in the making of the film.
Three unforgettable vacations go under the gavel for fashionistas. The Milan Fashion Extravaganza includes two impossible-to-get tickets to not just one but five Milan Fashion Week shows in 2009.
Those who need pampering can head to the sumptuous Mandarin Oriental Hotels in Hong Kong and Chiang Mai, visit designer emporium Shanghai Tang with a personal shopper, and dine courtesy of celebrity chef Richard Ekkebus.
