RI, MALAYSIA TO DISCUSS BORDER ISSUES AGAIN
Jakarta, Dec 10 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Malaysia are to hold further talks on various issues related to their common borders at the 37th meeting of their General Border Committee (GBC Malindo) here on Thursday, December 11, 2008.
The Indonesian delegation to the meeting would be led by Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono and the Malaysian delegation by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who is concurrently Malaysian defense minister.
"We are going to discuss various issues related to the borders of the two countries. There is nothing special about the meeting," Juwono Sudarsono said here on Wednesday.
He said the talks would deal with administrative matters, joint operations, social, economic and security matters along the two countries' common borders.
Meanwhile, National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief Gen Djoko Santoso said the 37th GBC Malindo meeting was scheduled to formalize agreements on a plan to add joint security posts at the borders, to formulate permanent procedures for air operations in joint security post areas, and to station TNI liaison officers in Kinabalu to develop border security cooperation in the eastern parts of the two countries.
"So far Malaysia has built three joint security posts, namely in Biawak, Lubuk Antu, and Seliku, while Indonesia only has two posts in Entikong and Simanggaris. Therefore, we want to add one more joint post," Djoko Santoso said.
