Michael Kirby to leave High Court
Michael Kirby will leave the High Court five weeks shy of his 70th birthday, Attorney-General Robert McClelland announced on Wednesday.
"The government takes this opportunity to thank Justice Kirby for his 13 years of exemplary judicial service to the commonwealth as a justice of the High Court of Australia," Mr McClelland said in a statement.
The law forces judges out of the court on their 70th birthday.
Justice Kirby will retire on February 2.
