ACEH STUDENTS GET SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY IN GERMANY
Banda Aceh, Indonesia, Dec. 10 (ANTARA) - The Aceh provincial administration provides scholarships to some 77 students for post-graduate and PhD studies in Germany this year.
"A total of 88 students have passed the selections for the scholarships, but seven of them haven withdrawn for various reasons," Deputy Governor of Aceh Province Muhammad Nazar said here on Wednesday when seeing off the scholarship recipients.
The university students would first be sent to Malaysia to learn the German language for six months, before leaving for Germany to pursue their studies in various universities in the European country.
The Aceh administration has given a priority to overseas studies as part of its human resource development program.
"Because we lack human resources capable of managing our natural resource, we have so far been forced to cooperate with other countries in managing our natural resources, and they the ones who benefit our natural wealth," the deputy governor said.
The provincial administration allocates funds amounting to around Rp75 billion for this year's scholarship program.
Aceh has sent its students to study in European countries, Australia, and some Middle East states, such as Egypt.
In the 2009 Aceh regional budget, the province allocates Rp1.5 trillion for the education sector, including Rp150 billion for scholarships to enable local students to study overseas.
