Sharjah boosts water and power production capacity
Sharjah, Dec 10, 2008 (WAM) - In the first nine months of the current year, Sharjah's production of underground and desalinated water grew by about 5 per cent to 23.9 million gallons of drinking water compared to 22.7 million gallons of drinking water in the corresponding period last year, according statistics released by Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA).
As for power, the figures showed an increase of 6.8 per cent to 7483,3 million kilowatt from 7006,9 million kilowatt for the same period under review.
Eng. Ibrahim Demas, Deputy Director of SEWA, said the increase in water and power production were the result of a series of new projects executed and commissioned by SEWA as part of its plans to boost its capacity for producing water and generating power in order to cater for growing demand for these services in the emirate.
