FINDING CORRECT FORMAT OF COOPERATION BETWEEN ASIAN AND AFRICAN YOUTHS, MINISTER

Jakarta, Dec 10 (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports affairs, Adhyaksa Dault, hoped here Tuesday for the correct right formula to develop and enhance cooperation between the youth in Asia and Africa on poverty and AIDS eradication.

"We realize that the youths in Asia and Africa have a firm commitment to anticipate the two problems," the minister stated in his written speech read out by the ministry's deputy for youth empowerment, Sakhyan Asmara, in a dialogue entitled Enhancing and Strengthening Cooperation between the Youths in Asia and Africa in Fighting AIDS and Poverty.
Moreover, Adhyaksa said the youth must face reality that poverty has caused them to loose the opportunity to have human basic needs like food, clothes, shelter, education and healthcare.
Poverty would also hamper the youth to get a job to develop themselves. This, the minister said, had caused the emergence of a jobless generation which tended to spread across Asia and Africa.
As to HIV/AIDS, Adhyaksa stated that these diseases had become a serious threat to youngsters in the regions, and according to United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) data, HIV and AIDS mainly attacked people in the 15-30 years age bracket, especially those in underdevelopped countries.
Whereas, the minister said, the youth was a country's hope to build a better future.
"Therefore, in order to formulate the right steps to fight poverty and HIV/AIDS, the ministry took the initiative to hole this dialogue," he said.
The participants of the dialogue came from embassies of Asian and African countries in Jakarta, related departments, representatives from companies, from Non Governmental Organization (NGO) related to HIV/AIDS's eradication, youth organizations and academicians.
