25 killed as bus catches fire

Firozabad (UP), Dec 9 (PTI) Twenty five pilgrims, including women and children, were killed and 30 others received serious burn injuries when the bus in which they were travelling caught fire here in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Navneet Kumar Rana said
that 25 pilgrims returning from a Satsang in Jai Gurudev
Ashram in Mathura were killed when the bus caught fire near
Rupaspur village in Makhanpur police station area.

The toll might rise, the SP said.

The injured have been rushed to various hospitals in
Firozabad and Agra, the SP said, adding that three fire
engines have been rushed to the spot.

The accident took place when one of the tyres of the bus,
travelling in high speed, burst, resulting in a massive fire,
the Superintendent said.

There were about 55-60 passengers in the bus when the
accident took place, he said, adding the victims belonged to
Sultanpur district of the state.

Incensed over the incident, the locals clashed with the
police and reportedly beat up a sub-inspector. PTI CORR
