Indians in Sri Lanka pay homage to Mumbai blast victims

Colombo, Dec 9 (PTI) Hundreds of people from all walks of life, including corporate executives and CEO's, gathered outside the Taj Hotel here to pay homage to victims of Mumbai terror attacks.

Over 350 people gathered outside the Hotel holding
candles and praying for the innocent lives lost in the terror
attacks in the financial capital of India.

Speakers condoled the deaths of the victims and
condemned the ghastly attack which they said was aimed at
shattering the people's confidence in India and elsewhere.

"We have brought in a lot of representatives from
India including the local corporate heads of the Indian
companies to express our unity and solidarity with the Mumbai
blast victims", country head of the software major IGTL
Solutions Sanjay Hatskar told PTI.

He said the slogans on fighting terror and a united
India to face these challenges, which were signed by several
people, would be sent to the Indian Prime Minister office.

The country manager of Coca Cola Far East Limited
Manish Chaturvedi, who was among the organisers of the
function, said the Indian and the global community at large
were shocked at the attack on prime Indian hotels and
foreigners in the commercial capital.

"We also pay our respects to the security personnel
who challenged the terrorists and laid down their lives for
our protection", Chaturvedi said.

The CEO of the Ceylon Glass Company, a subsidiary of
the Gujarat Glass Ltd, Sanjay Tiwari and Managing Director of
Aventic Pharma, Arun K Arya, also spoke.

Corporate executives of Mrs and Mr Sumith Law, Buvan
Singh and Maninder Bakshi said that Indians who had
congregated here wanted to pledge their solidarity to those
affected by the terror strike and to express heartfelt
condolences for those killed in the incidents.

The speakers also read out the names of the police and
security personnel who laid down their lives during the
attack.

Defence Advisor in the Indian High Commission in
Colombo, Captain Pradeep Singh said the country paid its deep
respects to the commandos and police personnel who fought the
terrorists. He expressed his condolence for those killed in
the attack.

Slogans such as "United we stand, Divided we fall",
"Terror has no religion” and "We salute our brave commandos"
were pasted on the walls during the function. PTI TVS
