Manama, Nov. 11 -- (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, today joined the British Embassy to the Kingdom of Bahrain in marking Armistice Day.
It is organised annually by the Embassy on November 11 in honor of the British soldiers fallen in the First World War, which claimed the lives of 630 British soldiers, until it ended with Armistice Day on November 11, 1918.
The occasion was held in the Old Christian Cemetery in Manama, where after two minutes of silence, wreaths were placed at the memorial for the soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his sincere condolences to the United Kingdom, stating that, "we recall on this painful day the ordeal that befell Britain and the rest of the world, which cannot be erased from its memory."
He expressed regret over the casualties caused by the wars and conflicts that have hit many parts of the world and left behind enormous human and material losses that deplete nations’ capacity to direct these resources towards development.
Shaikh Khalid stressed the need of ending these conflicts and disputes by all means and methods, to have peace and enhanced security as a top priority for all countries in the world in order to prevent the loss of more victims and suffer a lot of pain because of it.
The British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Iain Lindsay, praised the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in this occasion, which he said reflected sincere humane feelings, wishing Bahrain further progress and prosperity.
