Seoul names a captain as this year's 'Top Gun'

SEOUL, Dec. 9 (Yonhap) -- A 29-year-old Air Force captain was named Tuesday as
South Korea's "Top Gun" of the year, the highest honor given to combat pilots.

Park Moon-berm, a KF-16 fighter pilot, came on top in a recent competition that
looks for the armed service's best pilot, the Air Force said.
Park outperformed all of his peers in air-to-air and air-to-surface combat
skills, it said. Initiated in 1960, the competition also evaluates skills in
landing, take-off and navigation.
"This year is the best year of my life because I got married, my wife got
pregnant and I received the Top Gun Award. I will do my best to live up to the
reputation of Top Gun pilots," Park was quoted as saying.
The Air Force also named Captain Gwon Yu-jin (select) as its best co-pilot for
transport aircraft, making the 25-year-old the only female prize winner in this
year's contest.
