BEI INDEX CLOSES 4.49 PCT HIGHER TUESDAY MORNING

Jakarta, Dec. 9 (ANTARA) - The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) closed 4.49 percent or 54.037 points higher in the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) late Tuesday morning.

The IHSG was up 54.037 points or 4.49 percent to 1,256.379, and the LQ45 index strengthened 13.682 points or 5.87 percent to 246.853.

Among shares which advanced in the BEI were Bumi Resources shares which were up by Rp70 to Rp830, Telkom which increased Rp550 to Rp6,550, State Gas Company which went up by Rp130 to Rp1,980, Astra International which rose Rp800 to Rp9,950, Bank BRI which advanced Rp300 to Rp3,700, Bank Mandiri which surged Rp170 to Rp1,810, and the United Tractors which were up Rp425 to Rp3,775.

Almost all share sectors in the BEI index showed increases, only the property sector shares were down.

PT Trimegah Securities in its daily research analysis said the positive sentiments of the US bourse increase triggered the BEI index to strengthen.

Strengthening shares still dominated the market with 93 shares that managed to advance, only 29 that lost, 35 that remained static, and 300 that were not actively traded.
The rebound in the Indonesian bourse could be clearly seen from its volume reaching 1.119 billion shares worth Rp1.232 trillion from 34,476 transactions.

Meanwhile, the rupiah strengthened against the US dollar in the Jakarta interbank spot market on Tuesday morning, due to positive support of an external factor happening in the United States.

The rupiah was traded at Rp11,320/11,400 per US dollar on Tuesday, up 280 points from Rp11,600/11,700 per US dollar from the market closing last weekend.

The local currency strengthened thanks to a report on the US government's plan to bail out three US automotive industries, said Eric Sugandhi, an economic observer of Standard Chartered Bank, here on Tuesday.
