KPK ASKS HOUSE TO PASS CORRUPTION COURT BILL SOON
Jakarta, Dec. 9 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked the House of Representatives (DPR) to pass the bill for the formation of a corruption court (Tipikor) soon for the sake of law enforcement in the country.
"Institutionally, we obviously want the bill on the corruption court to be passed soon," KPK Deputy Chairman M Jasin said after attending a function to mark the anniversary of the Anti-Corruption Movement at the Constitutional Court (MK) here on Tuesday.
He, however, said that actually the existing law on Tipikor was quite alright, and there was no need to make a new law on Tipikor.
He expressed his concern that if the composition of Tipikor juries was changed, the Tipikor court would be different from the existing one.
The Constitutional Court has set December 19, 2009 as the deadline for the passage of the Tipikor law.
Next year, Indonesia would hold general elections, therefore the Tipikor bill should be passed before the deadline of December 19, 2009, he said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended a function to mark World Anti-Corruption Day at the Monas (National Monument) square here Tuesday (Dec. 9).
