JAKARTA POLICE HAND OUT 3,500 SACRIFICIAL MEAT PACKAGES
Jakarta, Dec 8 (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters handed out 3,500 plastic bags each containing about 2 kilograms of meat to needy people on Idul Adha (Day of Sacrifice) on Monday.
Thousands of people from many parts of the capital and its satellite towns such as Bogor and Cengkareng waited for more than an hour in a light drizzle to get the package.
To avoid undesired eventualities, police divided the waiting crowd into two queues - one for men and another for women. The lines thus formed were at the begnning as long as 100 meters.
The meat parcels were handed to people who could show coupons distributed the day before and one person was allowed to receive only one parcel.
The chairman of the sacrificial meat distribution committee, Commissioner Rohadi said, the meat had come from 30 cows and 49 goats.
The lines were formed at 12.00 noon but the distribution of the meat parcels started at 13.30 and lasted until 14.30. To prevent someone from receiving more than one package, every recipient had his or hand marked by a stamp.
