Moily describes assembly results as 'upswing' for the party
New Delhi, Dec 8 (PTI) Describing the results of the
state Assembly elections in six states across the country as
an "upswing" for itself, the Congress Monday termed them a
major victory.
"The result puts the Congress on the upswing for the Lok
Sabha elections. It is a moral victory for the party. The
chemistry is going for us...," party media department chief M
Veerappa Moily told reporters here.
Asked whether the "good" results would expedite early Lok
Sabha elections, Moily said the priority is first to fight
against terrorism, communalism and insulate the economy from
recession and meltdown.
"The priority is nation first and not election," said
Moily, without specifying whether the party would go in for
early polls in February or on schedule in April.
Reflecting on the victory of the party in Delhi, the
Congress leader said, "winning Delhi is like winning India".
He said Delhi was like mini-India where people from all
regions live.
"The victory would not have been possible here (Delhi) if
the people were angry at the Congress government and the
policies of Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh and
Congress President Sonia Gandhi," he said.
Moily said the performance of both Manmohan Singh and
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was appreciated in Delhi,
leading to the third straight win for the party.
Moily said the bogey of being "soft" on terror and
inflation was raised by the BJP, but the people of the
national Capital have rejected it.
On the losses in the central states of Madhya Pradesh and
Chhattisgarh, the Congress leader said an "introspection"
needs to be done but added that despite BJP trying all tricks,
it lost Rajasthan.
"This is the beginning of the decline of the BJP. We will
march with all confidence towards the Lok Sabha elections," he
added. PTI AMI
