TENS TRAMPLED DOWN WHILE TRYING TO GET SACRIFICIAL MEAT
Surabaya, E Java, Dec 8 (ANTARA) - Tens of adults and children were trampled down when they were trying to get idul Adha sacrificial meat at the Surabaya district court office on Arjuna Street here on Monday.
However, there were no fatalities in the incident as the police and security guards at the court immediately intervened to make the people stand in line to get their meat rations.
Signs of an incident were noticed when thousands of local residents flocked to the area since Monday morning while the distribution of the meat was to be conducted past noon (Zuhur) prayers or at 12:00 local time.
When the office's gates were opened, the masses who had been standing outside since morning stormed into the compound, causing senior people and children to fall to the ground where they were trampled down. Some of the children got separated from their parents.
Seeing this condition, the police and security guards at the court office immediately intervened to help those who were trampled under while persuading the crowd to form an orderly queue.
Luckily, the people who were trampled down only suffered light injuries and nobody was fatally wounded.
For this year's Idul Adha (day of sacrifice), the Surabaya district court office had slaughtered six cows and nine goats. The meat of the sacrificed animals were distributed to around 1,000 people.
