Iran to continue enrichment activity

Tehran, Dec 8, IRNA Iran will continue its enrichment activity as there is no guarantee
for supply of nuclear fuel by the West, Foreign Ministry spokesman,
Hassan Qashqavi, said on Monday.

"Recent comments made by the European Union's foreign policy chief
about West's role in supplying nuclear fuel for Iran has proved
righteousness of Iran's position about maintaining its enrichment
activities," Qashqavi said.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, the spokesman added,
continuation of Iran's enrichment activities stem from the fact that
it could not trust the West for providing necessary nuclear fuel for
the country's nuclear power plant in the southern city of Bushehr.

His remarks came after the EU foreign policy chief, Javier Solana,
recently said that the West should be blamed for the current delay in
supplying nuclear fuel for Bushehr's nuclear power plant.

"The international community has been trying, since six years ago, to
establish a committee to guarantee and provide nuclear fuel for Iran
but the committee has yet to be formed," Qashqavi argued.

He added, "How western countries expect Iran to believe them while
they cannot even guarantee supply of spare parts for the country's
passenger planes which is an undoubtedly a humanitarian issue and
would not violate any right."
"We will try to move in line with our national interests so that it
will lead to great breakthroughs with fewer costs," Qashqavi stressed.
