Fourteen-year-old charged with murder

(AAP) A 14-year-old Sydney schoolboy made a "frantic" triple-0 call to police after his friend was fatally shot, police say.

Paramedics tried desperately to save the boy, also aged 14, after receiving a call
to a home in Orangeville, in the city's south-west, about 10.15pm (AEDT) on
Saturday.
The boy died at the scene.
"He was conscious when they (paramedics) first got there but unfortunately due to
the injuries he sustained he did die a short time later," Superintendent Ian
Foscholo told reporters on Sunday.
Network Ten reported the boy was shot in the face and neck.
Supt Foscholo said the victim's friend, who had made a "frantic" call to triple-0
after the shooting, was arrested at the premises and taken to Camden police station.
The 14-year-old declined to make a statement and was charged with murder.
"The young person under legal advice did not want to speak and did not want to
provide a statement to the police, which is his right," Supt Foscholo said.
"And so consequently the police have got to go down a particular line of inquiry,
which they did and that resulted in the murder charge."
A firearm was seized from the crime scene but police wouldn't say what model weapon
it was or who owned it.
The boy was conditionally bailed to report at Campbelltown Children's Court on
January 5.
The shooting happened at the home of one of the two teenagers.
At the two-storey Silverdale Road address on Sunday a swing set, trampoline and bike
sat idle in the front yard while a silver Christmas wreath adorned the front door.
At one point a family friend arrived to help police access the home, but refused to
comment on the tragedy.
