Bosnia-Herzegovina called for multi-ethnic State

New York (VNA) - Vietnam calls upon all the parties in Bosnia and
Herzegovina to work together in a reconciliatory spirit and with patience
toward a mutually acceptable solution regarding an integral multi-ethnic
State made up of two entities, with guaranteed rights for the Bosniaks,
Serbs and Croats living there.

Ambassador Bui The Giang, Vietnamese Deputy Representative to the UN made
the appeal on Dec. 5 at a discussion of the UN Security Council on situation
in Bosnia and Herzegovina .

The Vietnamese representative said: "We take note of the efforts made during
the reporting period by Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in restructuring
its police, entrenching the rule of law, as well as maintaining the overall
fiscal sustainability and macroeconomic stability of the country.

"We, however, remain concerned about the political situation in BiH in
recent months as demonstrated inter alia in the continued domination by
nationalist rhetoric over the political atmosphere and related attacks on
State institutions, challenging the country's sovereignty and territorial
integrity as mentioned in the High Representative' s report," the Ambassador
said.

He went on to say that " Vietnam is equally concerned about the potential
economic and financial challenges facing the country, particularly under the
impact of the global food and energy crises.

Against this background, my Delegation holds that all the stakeholders in
BiH, at this critical juncture, need to show a higher sense of political
responsibility and greater ownership of the reform process. It is
important that the constitutional reform process must continue under the
ownership of Bosnia and Herzegovina and be based on the principles set
out in the Dayton Agreement," he said

According to the Vietnamese Ambassador, Vietnam confirms its support
for the role of the Office of the High Representative for BiH and the
European Union in facilitating the country's regional and international
integration process as well as in promoting peace, security and development
in BiH within the Dayton Agreement.-Enditem
