Rice asks Pak to act fast to bring Mumbai attackers to justice
Washington, Dec 6 (PTI) Pakistan has a "special
responsibility" to act "urgently and transparently" in
bringing to justice the perpetrators of last week's Mumbai
terror attacks, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said.
"Islamabad has a special responsibility to act fast. I
was assured that they will act, but the need is to act
urgently and transparently," Rice said in a media availability
in Copenhagen with the Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh
Rasmussen.
"We did have a very good discussion on the situation
prevailing in both the countries and I informed Prime Minister
that this is a terrible and a sophisticated attack. It raises
questions about the importance of making it certain that
everything will be done to bring the perpetrators to justice,
to prevent follow-on attacks," Rice said.
She also said that Indian people who suffered a great
loss are acting fast through their government to improve their
capabilities on the counter-terrorism side.
"....And the United States is going to be very active in
helping them to do so," she said.
Danish Prime Minister Rasmussen also said Rice briefed
him about her recent visit to the region and stressed that
the need of the hour is to stand united against the menace of
terrorism.
"... Secretary Rice informed me about her talks in
the region. The attacks underline the continued need to stand
together in the fight against terrorism," he said according to
a transcript released by the State Department. PTI SK
