Underbelly star shines on AFI red carpet

She spent much of Underbelly in trackie-daks playing gangland wife Roberta Williams, but actress Kat Stewart wasn't committing any fashion crimes.

Stewart looked every bit the belle of the ball as she walked the red carpet at the
AFI Awards in Melbourne on Saturday.
Laced into a figure-hugging black and silver J'aton gown, Stewart joked she went
with style over comfort.
"I feel supported," Stewart laughed.
"In six hours I might be blue in the face but it feels good now."
The stars of the Australian film and television industry took the black-tie dress
code seriously, with many of its leading ladies choosing a variety of black gowns.
Satisfaction star Diana Glenn wore a daring black plunge dress, her co-star
Madeleine West chose a strapless beaded ebony gown, and The Jammed star Emma Lung
picked a dark mini paired with a gold belt.
US actor January Jones from the series Mad Men brought a bit of old Hollywood
glamour to the proceedings, highlighting her one-shouldered black number with some
deep red lipstick and soft blonde curls.
Veronica Sywak from The Jammed accessorised her dramatic ink dress with 20 carat
diamonds, and singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte was streamlined in midnight velvet.
Not to be outdone by the ladies, The Black Balloon star Rhys Wakefield added a bit
of shimmer to his suit jacket.
"Yeah it's kind of shiny, kind of young, whatever," he said.
Not everyone stuck to basic black though.
Kerry Armstrong shone in emerald green, Alison Whyte shimmered in a berry-coloured
frock, director Elissa Down went with teal, and Saskia Burmeister stood out in ruby
red.
