PRESIDENT LEADS MEETING TO EVALUATE KUR PROGRAM
Jakarta, Dec 5 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here Friday led a meeting of economic ministers and state bank chiefs to evaluate the implementation of the government's smallholder's credit scheme (KUR) launched on November 5, 2007.
In the closed-door meeting at the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) building, the president listened to an expose by Acting Chief Economic Minister Sri Mulyani and reports by the chief exective officers of state-owned banks responsible for disbursing the KUR funds such as BRI, Bank Mandiri and BNI.
The evaluation was carried out to ensure that the credit facility would create business opportunities amid the impact of the global financial crisis.
Six sate-owned banks are involved in the program as distributors of the credits, namely BRI, Bank BNI, Bank Mandiri, Bank Bukopin, Bank BTN and Bank Syariah Mandiri.
Perum Sarana Pengembangan Usaha and PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia act as credit guarantors. The KUR facility focuses on five business sectors, namely agriculture, fisheries and marine resources, cooperatives, forestry, industry and trade.
Up to November 2008, the KUR provision has reached Rp12 trillion with 1,567 million recipients.
Most of the KUR credits were absorbed by East Java province and Central Java (15.06 percent each) and West Java (12.35 percent).
President Yudhoyono had previously projected that about Rp15 trillion in KUR credits would be disbursed this year.
