US satisfied with resolution No. 1846

WASHINGTON , Dec. 04 (Saba) - The United States (US) expressed its
satisfaction with the adoption of Security Council resolution No.
1846unanimously and by which it set the mandate of the states
signatories, which are about 150 countries, of the treaty on
fighting piracy in the coasts of Somalia and illegal activities.

The resolution welcomed the initiative of the European Union to send
a mission to the region as well as the decision to accompany the
World Food Program shipments until the arrival of the European Union
mission.

The permanent representative of Yemen to the United Nations Abdullah
al-Saidi briefed the Secretary General of the United Nations Ban
Ki-moon that the rise in piracy in Somali coasts is a reflection of
the domestic situation of Somalia.

He also made clear the efforts of the country to come out with a
reconciliation between the warring factions in the Somali country.
