ATTORNEY GENERAL INAUGURATES ANTI-CORRUPTION SCHOOL
Jakarta, Dec 4 (ANTARA) - Attorney General Hendarman Supandji on Thursday inaugurated a school dedicated to the fight against corruption, named Diponegoro Anti-Corruption School, at the SMAN-3 (State Senior High-school 3) in South Jakarta.
In his address on the occasion, Supandji said the school was intended to help form a younger generation that was honest in character and aware that corruption is an evil.
"The objective of the anti-corruption school is to contribute to the making of an honest nation," Supandji said at the ceremony which was also attended by the rector of Diponegoro University (Undip).
He said corruption needed to be combated in a way that combined repression, prevention, and education. "This Anti-Corruption School is part of the educational element in the fight against corruption," he said.
Supandji said the number of corruption cases handled by the Attorney General's Office, the National Police, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPU) was increasing every year.
"Corruption has become a transnational crime," he said, adding that the anti-corruption school was named after Diponegoro because he was a figure in the nation's history known for his firm attitude, honesty, and simplicity.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Indonesian Neighborhood Youth Association (Karang Taruna Indonesia), Dody Susanto, said the anti-corruption school was intended to create young people who had an honest attitude.
"The presence of this school is a good momentum for the younger generation to have legal awareness in the community," Dody Susanto said.
In addition, he said , the school was expected to build solidarity among young people in their cultural movement to wage war on corruption.
