U.S. manager-led baseball club wins top sports franchise award

SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean baseball club the Lotte Giants, led by
American manager Jerry Royster, won the top award for a sports franchise Thursday
after drawing more than 1.3 million spectators this year.
The Giants, based in the southeastern port city of Busan, finished third in
overall standings this season, but lured the largest crowd ever in South Korea's
history of professional sports.
The team rallied from last year's poor performance after Royster took over, and
the franchise also rang up 2.5 billion won (US$1.7) in profits, grabbing the
award annually given by the culture ministry.
