BROADCASTING OF “LIBERTY” AND “VOICE OF AMERICA” RADIO STATIONS DISCUSSED

Baku, 04 December,(AzerTAj)Chairman of the National Council of Television and Radio
Nushiravan Maharramov met with representatives of the US Broadcasting Board of
Governors Doug Boynton, Enver Safir, employee of Radio “Liberty” Julia Ragan, head
of the US Embassy`s Public Affairs Section Terry Davidson, counselor for political
affairs Joanna Hanson to discuss the broadcasting of “Liberty” and “Voice of
America” radio stations in Azerbaijan.
Maharramov pointed out this issue is just legal, saying he opposes politization of
this issue.
During the meeting, Maharramov gave insight into the TV and radio broadcasting
system in Azerbaijan, provisions of law prohibiting broadcasting of foreign
broadcasting companies in Azerbaijan on national frequencies.
Under the laws of Azerbaijan, foreign TV and radio broadcasting companies can only
use cable network, satellite and internet.
