Seoul shares open higher on U.S. gains
SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened higher Thursday as most blue chips got a boost from strong overnight gains on Wall Street, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 16.14 points, or
1.58 percent, to 1,038.81 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. shares closed sharply higher Wednesday with the Dow Jones industrial average
climbing 2.05 percent and the tech-dominated Nasdaq composite index rising 2.94
percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,460 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 9 won from Wednesday's close.
