BAKU DECLARATION IS A NEW CALL FOR EXPANSION OF INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE’
Baku, 03 December,(AzerTAj)The Baku declaration is a new call for expansion of the intercultural dialogue across the world, said Azerbaijani Minister of culture and tourism Abulfaz Garayev at a news conference dedicated to outcomes of the Council of Europe`s Conference of Ministers responsible for Culture which wrapped up in the Azerbaijani capital on Wednesday.
The two-day conference on the theme of “Intercultural dialogue as a basis for peace
and sustainable development in Europe and its neighboring regions” was co-organized
by the Azerbaijani government and the Council of Europe.
Garayev pointed out Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s support for the Baku
conference.
He said the fact the President set up an organizing committee to deal with
preparation and conduct of the event demonstrated how much emphasis he placed on the
issue.
The Minister also praised contributions of President of the Heydar Aliyev
Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva and Council of
Europe`s Secretary General Terry Davis
Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Director General of Education, Culture and Heritage,
Youth and Sport and Coordinator for Intercultural Dialogue of the Council of Europe,
in turn, sang the praises for the Azerbaijani government, describing the conference
as the well organized.
She said the Baku conference once again demonstrated Azerbaijan`s commitment to
contributing to strengthening intercultural dialogue on the world scale.
The conference brought together over 250 delegates, including 16 Ministers, 18
Deputy Ministers, heads of 10 international organizations, and representatives of
the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), Islamic
International Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ISESCO), European
Commission, and UNESCO.
