JICA HOLDS WORKSHOP ON NEW PARADIGM OF BUSINESS MODELS

Jakarta, Dec 3 (ANTARA) - The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a workshop at Aryaduta Hotel here on Wednesday entitled New Paradigm for a Better Society: A New Business Model for Private, NGO and Academies on Development inviting around 150 participants to support the development of the Indonesia community.

Suprapto, Head of the Bureau of Technical Cooperation at the State Secretariat in his welcoming remarks said that "All related parties should have a broader knowledge on how to support development of the society and on the appropriate model that will be applied".

He exemplified the realization through JICA cooperations with Indonesian NGOs and initiatives taken by the private sector through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

"The CSR concept could be discussed at policy level involving representatives from the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises together with the Ministry of the Environment and at implementation level as has been done by Panasonic and Indofood," he added.

Meanwhile, JICA's Chief Representative Takashi Sakamoto said the aim of the workshop was to introduce and share experiences in various actors on community development and partnership, extract lessons learnt by the participants, and come up with partnership models to support the development of the society.

"So far there has been strong bond between the donors such as JICA, UNDP, World Bank, and the recipients but nowadays due to the diversity the relations getting more complex so through this workshop we will get closer relations with NGOs and the private sector that are willing to assist in the development of Indonesia," Sakamoto said.

The workshop was also attended by Makoto Iyori, Councellor of the Japanese Embassy, representatives from central and local government institutions, international donor agencies besides Indonesian NGOs, the private sector and academians.
