RI CONTINUING BID TO IMPROVE INVESTMENT CLIMATE: MINISTER
Jakarta, Dec 3 (ANTARA) - State Administrative Reform Minister Taufiq Effendi said Indonesia was continuing its vigorous efforts to make significant improvements in its investment climate.
The country's target in 2009 was to rank 75th on the list of the most investment-friendly countries in the world, Effendi said at the opening of an international seminar on bureaucracy held by his office and the World Bank here Wednesday.
He said the investment climate should be improved by creating easier and more effective procedures to do business in Indonesia.
In 2006, Indonesia was still in the 135th place on the list of 175 countries surveyed by the World Bank for the simplicity of their procedures applicable to investors.
"Our target in 2009 is to reach the 75th rank," he said.
The efforts that should be made to achieve the target were improving public services, speeding up the formation of integrated services which was started in 2005.
"Only nine integrated service systems were set up since 2005 and we expect the number to increase to 350 in 2008." he said.
State administrative reform efforts were begun at three important institutions -- the finance ministry, the State Audit Board (BPK) and the Supreme Court.
In 2008, the reform program would be implemented in every government institution, including in regional administrations, he said.***5***
