JAKARTA POLICE DISCLOSE HUMAN TRAFFICKING SYNDICATE

Jakarta, Dec 3 (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Police on Tuesday evening disclosed a trafficking syndicate at a house on E street in Kebon Jeruk area, West Jakarta.
The police raided the house and held some 18 young women who would be sold to Taiwan but the owner of the house, a Taiwanese national, managed to escape.
The women who were held by the police said they did not know that their house accommodation on E street in Kebon Jeruk was illegal.
According to them, the owner of the house promised to employ them as migrant workers abroad with higher salaries
"He (the owner of the house) promised to employ us with higher salaries in a foreign country but we don't know which country it is," said Lili, one of the trafficking victims.
Lili said she and the other women who were accommodated in the house were from various districts in Java.
She added the women saved by the police were all under 30 years old.
Meanwhile the police are still hunting the owner of the house.
"We have had the identity of the man who owned the house and therefore we will continue to hunt and arrest him," West Jakarta Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Iza Fadri said here on Wednesday.
