PT PUSRI INCREASES 2008 FERTILIZER ALLOTMENT FOR CENTRAL JAVA

Semarang, Dec 3 (ANTARA) - Central Java's 2008 subsidized urea fertilizer quota has been increased by 22,393 tons to 841,000 tons in view of the fertilizer scarcities local farmers have been facing lately, a fertilizer company PT Pusri official said.
The allotment of subsidized urea fertilizer for Central Java in 2008 has been raised from 818,607 tons to 841,000 tons based on a provision in Central Java Governor's Decree No 521.3/2003, Eddy Hamin, PT Pusri's area marketing manager, said here Wednesday.
"As per December this year, Central Java's fertilizer allotment has been increased twice," Mamim said.
But he said he believed there would be another proposal for additional fertilizer supplies for Central Java because farmers in a number of districts were at present experiencing acute shortages.
"Our prediction is that the fertilizer allotment so far will not be enough because the governor had previously proposed an increase by 75,000 tons for 2008 but we only agreed to 45,000 tons," Hamim said.
However, he said, PT Pusri's fertilizer stocks were large enough to meet the farmers' demand.
"Therefore we are going to distribute it in accordance with the quota of each district," he said, adding that the farmers should not be upset because there was enough fertilizer in stock for them.
Meanwhile, in Pekalongan, Central Java, PT Pusri's local office gave the assurance on Monday that it had a sufficient volume of Kujang fertilizer in its storehouses to meet the local farmers' need until the end of this month.
The office's marketing director, Sentot Sumardi, said that around 1,300 tons of fertilizer were still in its storehouses and it would be enough to meet local farmers' need for this year's planting season.
"Each distributor will supply fertilizer to farmers every week in accordance with the decree issued by the Pekalongan district head and city mayor," Sumardi said.
He said in distributing the fertilizer, PT Pusri would use the rules laid down in Trade and Industry Minister's Decree No.21/2008 on provision and distribution of subsidized fertilizer which also provided for heavy sanctions on violators of the rules.
