S. Korea's procurement agency to front-load 2009 budget

SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's procurement agency said Wednesday that it
will front-load around 70 percent of its 2009 budget spending in the first half
to help stimulate the nation's slumping domestic demand.
Of the 27.5 trillion won (US$18.74 billion) for next year's budget, the Public
Procurement Service said that it will spend 19.3 trillion won in the January-June
period in purchasing goods and paying for government-initiated construction
projects.
The move is in line with intensifying efforts by the government to kick-start the
nation's slumping domestic demand and turn around the economy, which is currently
on a path toward a marked slowdown, it said.
