Workshop on HIV relations to drugs held
ADEN, Dec. 02 (Saba)- Minister of Interior Mutahar al-Mesri said the
security apparatus have seized 26 tons of different kinds of
narcotic substances and 13, 5 million tablets of drugs during 2008.
Minster al-Mesri affirmed, in the workshop on drugs addicting and
its relation with HIV virus, that the great quantities of drugs
seized last year do not mean that drugs have been widely spread
more than the previous years but security measure taken by the
ministry across the country have led to seizing great quantities of
drugs during 2008.
In the workshop which was organized by the United Nation's Office on
Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in coordination with the Interior Ministry's
General Department for Fighting Drugs and last for three days,
al-Mesri made it clear that more than 226 Yemeni and foreign accused
of trading with drugs have been arrested and transformed to justice.
Attended by 25 officers representing management of fighting drugs,
the workshop included a show by projector to a number of issues
related to drugs and HIV virus.
The workshop included two work sessions, the first one dealt with
international situation concerning drugs and aids and regional
general vision on using drugs and on aids by UNODC's regional
representative.
The second session included presenting the UNODC and reviewing local
strategy for using drugs and Aids, efforts of the general management
for fighting drugs and limiting using drugs and reviewing national
strategy for combating aids.
