MOBIL CEPU LTD TO PRODUCE 165,000 BARRELS A DAY IN 2012

Jakarta, Dec 2 (ANTARA) - Mobil Cepu Limited, operator of Cepu block of oil fields in Central and East Java, expects to produce up to 165,000 barrels of oil per day in 2012.

"The peak of production is expected to be reached in 2012. Possibly it will take five years," chief of the government upstream oil and gas regulator (BP Migas), Raden Priyono, said at a meeting with House Commission VII here on Tuesday.

Priyono said the peak of production would be reached in stages with the early production in the Banyu Urip field to reach 20,000 bpd in the first quarter next year.

Right now, he said, the Mobil Cepu Ltd and Pertamina E&P Cepu, continued to work to prepare the facilities for the early production so that the target could be met on December 10 this year.

He said the facilities for the early production in the Banyu Urip field were separated from the main project. "The development of the facilities for the early production is excluded from the plan of development of the block," he said.

The project was not included in the plan of development because it was intended for supporting the government's program in increasing and speeding oil production in the country.

Priyono said while the early production was underway the MCL and Pertamina E&P would in parallel prepare the development of facilities for the main production until 2012.

Maman Budiman, the MCL vice president for public affair, said he was optimistic the 165,000 bpd target would be achieved according to schedule.

The government has handed over the exploitation of Cepu Block to MCL and PT Pertamina E&P which is the subsidiary of state-owned oil company PT Pertamina in September 2005 with each of them holding 50 percent equity.
