W SUMATRA`S MONHTLY SUBSIDIZED FERTILIZER ALLOTMENT TO BE INCREASED

Padang, Indonesia, Dec 2 (ANTARA) - The allotment of subsidized fertilizer for West Sumatra province will rise from 71,745 tons per month this year to 82,950 tons per month in 2009, an official of fertilizer maker PT Pusri said.

"With the increase in the subsidized fertilizer allocation for West Sumatra, the volume of fertilizer supplies in the province will automatically increase," Teguh Mukhtar, supervisor of procurement and marketing at PT Pusri's Padang branch, said here on Tuesday.

According to data from the West Sumatra agricultural office, demand for fertilizer in the agriculture and plantation sectors in the province was 139,000 tons per month.

Mukhtar said the increase in the subsidized fertilizer allotment next year would reduce the local farmers use of non-subsidized fertilizer.

He added that 45 of the 88 fertilizer distributors in the province had been selected to distribute the subsidized fertilizer next year.

Meanwhile, the Pekalongan office of fertilizer maker PT Pusri in Central Java gave the assurance on Monday that it had a sufficient volume of Kujang fertilizer in its storehouses to meet the local farmers' need until the end of this month.

The office's marketing director, Sentot Sumardi, said in Pekalongan on Monday that around 1,300 tons of fertilizer were still in its storehouses and it would be enough to meet local farmers' need for this year's planting season.

"Each distributor will supply fertilizer to farmers every week in accordance with the decree issued by the Pekalongan district head and city mayor," Sumardi said.

He said in distributing the fertilizer, PT Pusri would use the rules laid down in Trade and Industry Minister's Decree No.21/2008 on provision and distribution of subsidized fertilizer which also provided for heavy sanctions on violators of the rules.

"There have been irregularities in fertilizer distribution in Pekalongan district lately. The violators ptoved not to be officially regsistered retailers and we have referred their cases to the police," Sumardi said.

He said to anticipate more irregularities in fertilizer distribution, PT Pusri Pekalongan had entered into operational cooperation (KSO) with related government agencies to impose stern sanctions on those violating the rules.***
