KPI MONITORS 40 TV INFOTAINTMENT PROGRAMS
Pekanbaru, Indonesia, Dec 2 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) is currently monitoring 40 television information and entertainment (infotaintment) shows on suspicion of often showing pornographic elements that may harm viewers particularly children.
"KPI will take a harsh action against shows about artists that reveals pornographic actions," KPI chairman Fetty Febrianti said at a meeting with local television media operators here on Tuesday.
He said the 40 shows were considered violating Law Number 32 of 2002 on broadcasting because they revealed pornographic elements.
Based upon the law radio or television stations are prohibited to show programs carrying pornographic elements.
She said KPI had sent a warning to 10 television stations broadcasting programs currently under close monitoring.
It was known that KPI had sent a warning letter to RCTI, Trans TV and Trans 7 last May in connection with the episodes in their infotainment programs.
The episodes reprimanded were shown in the "SILET" program by RCTI at 11 a.m on April 4, 2008, in the "INSERT" program by TransTV at 11 a.m on April 16 and in the "GOSIP SIANG" by Trans7 at 12.00 hours on April 26.
She said if television stations continued airing episodes that had pornographic elements KPI would give them harsh sanctions, adding as an independent institution KPI even could suspend the airing of the program.
According to the results of a survey and study by KPI, infotainment programs could be aired for up to 14 hours a day.
