Musicians invited to audition for YouTube orchestra By Kim Young-gyo

SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Yonhap) -- YouTube, a globally popular video-sharing Web site,
announced Tuesday it will audition musicians from around the world for the first
collaborative on-line orchestra.
Video entries of instrumental performances will be accepted starting Tuesday
until Jan. 28, 2009, the Google-operated Web site said. The individual
performances will be combined into a virtual performance, it said.
Those who want to audition for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra must submit parts
from "Eroica," a new piece written especially for the audition by Chinese
composer Tan Dun, who won awards for his work in the film "Crouching Tiger,
Hidden Dragon."
Finalists will be chosen by a judging panel and YouTube users, and will travel to
New York in April 2009 to participate in the YouTube Symphony Orchestra summit
and play at Carnegie Hall with American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.
"Korean users are also encouraged to use traditional Korean instruments if they
think their instruments are suitable for a certain part of the music," said Park
Hyun-wook, head of YouTube Marketing Asia Pacific.
YouTube launched a Korean-language version of its service in January and has seen
a high traffic growth rate since.
