PRESIDENT : CIVIL SERVANTS MUST REMAIN NEUTRAL IN ELECTIONS

Bandung, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said civil servants should remain neutral and professional in connection with the implementation of the general elections next year.

As a national advisor to the Indonesian Civil Servants Corps (Korpri) President Yudhoyono in a written address read out by West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan at the commemoration of Korpri's anniversary in the province here on Monday said civil servants must reflect their neutrality by always putting the public, national and state interests above everything else.

The president said Korpri members must give the best service to all components of the nation, including political parties taking part in the elections.

The neutrality of Korpri members is the realization of Korpri members' committment to their task and service to the country and nation.

With it he said it is hoped Korpri members could improve their beureaucratic service so that it would be more professional.

President Yudhoyono said Korpri members must respond to conctructive criticisms from the public so that they would progress and be more responsive.

Conduct inovations and reforms so that administrative approaches, methods and activities would be more effective to meet progress, he said.
Korpri, he said, must be able to continue reform efforts and democratization to develop a clean and respected government and with regard to the 2009 legislative elections it must stick to its committment to remain neutral and shun practical politics.
