KPK REFUTES AG'S STATEMENT ON BUDGET FOR CORRUPTION CASE HANDLING
Jakarta, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chief Antasari Azhar has refuted Attorney General Hendarman Supandji's recent statement about the budget enjoyed by KPK prosecutors to fund their operations.
He said the budget available to KPK for the handling of one corruption case was not Rp300 million as the attorney general had alleged.
Supandji had mentioned the KPK's operational budget in proposing an increase in the operational budget for public prosecutors to handle corruption cases, saying KPK and public prosecutors should receive equal amounts.
He said the public prosecutor's offices were so far only receiving Rp15 million each for handling one case which was far below that of KPK which reached up to Rp400 million per case.
Antasari said "after we calculated our budget, it turns our operational expenditures are around Rp25 million per case."
He said the operational budget was used for investigation, prosecution and execution.
The KPK's budget in 2008 reached Rp9 billion which was used for studies on 70 cases, investigation of 47 cases, prosecution of 39 cases and execution of 21 others.
