GARUDA TO FLY PASSENGERS STRANDED IN BANGKOK FROM MILY AIRPORT
Jakarta, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - Garuda Indonesia plans to fly its passengers who are now stranded in Bangkok by a special flight by way of Utha Pao military airbase on December 3 and 5 using an F-373 800 that has 160 seats.
The airline's VP corporate secretary, Pujobroto, said in a press statement received here on Monday the two flights were scheduled to leave at 01.50 local time and arrive here at 05.20.
"With the two flights it is hoped the 305 Indonesians who are now stranded in Bangkok would soon be back in the country," he said.
Pujobroto said would-be passengers of the flights could check in at Bitech Expo (in the Bangna area) which was a special location set by the government for check-in activities for all flights.
From there the passengers will be taken by bus to Utha Pao, he said. "Those who do not hold Garuda tickets could also fly with Garuda so long as there are seats available for them," he said.
Two main airports in Bangkok namely the Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang have been closed for flights after they were occupied by protesters.
Garuda halted flights to the two airports after the Air Traffic Controller in Bangkok sent a notification to airman (NOTAM) statement to the company telling that as of November 25 flights from and to the two airports were stopped.
Garuda has halted its flights to Bangkok from November 25 to 30. However through various efforts and measures Garuda finally was given a permit to fly from Utha Pao which is about three hours by car from Bangkok.
"For further information passengers are requested to contact Garuda Office at 1168/77 Lumpini Tower 27th Floor, Rama Road IV. Bangkok,or phone no 662-2856470-73," he said.
