LAWS NOT TO SUPPOSED TO BLOCK ACCESS TO TREATMENT: UNAIDS

Jakarta, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - The UNAIDS suggested that the law and policy in several countries not to block access to preventive and healing treatments of people living with HIV.

According to an UNAIDS press release received by Antara here Monday denying the rights of people living with HIV was obstructing similar facilities in the world.

The release also called on countries to have laws which protect people living with HIV from discrimination, force and the monitoring of people's personal lives.

The institution was worried about some countries considering to legalize technology utilization for monitoring the movement of people living with HIV, apply compulsory HIV tests and counseling and force rehabilitation of commercial sex workers and drugs addicts.

These steps negatively affected efforts to overcome HIV and access to treatment of people living with HIV besides violating human rights and increasing stigma toward particular peoples.

It also stated that prohibitions including on travelling abroad while monitoring their movement were not in line with good health principles.
