RI COULD BENEFIT FROM ASEAN+3 LIQUIDITY FACILITY
Jakarta, Dec 1 (ANTARA) - Indonesia could benefit the Japanese liquidity facility of Asean+3 under the Chiang Mai Initiative to support foreign exchange reserve to finance the 2009 state budget deficit.
"The support to the budget deficit will be given by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) whereas the Chiang Mai Initiative and liquidity will be carried out through JBIC (Japan Bank for International Cooperation)," Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said here Monday.
According to the minister, the recent Asean+3 finance ministers meeting in Japan discussed the Chiang Mai Initiative in greater detail in view of the current global crisis.
"We discussed the details of the requirements fulfilled by ASEAN countries with the ASEAN plus--Japan, China and Korea--to benefit the Chiang Mai facility," she said.
"We could expect a loan from the bilateral relations with Japan if the securities market has not recovered," she said.
She added that the Japanese government had given a positive response and would soon make political moves towards that end.
When asked whether Japan would give a standby loan, the minister said Indonesia will arrange the amount under the multilateral and bilateral relations.
