POLICE CHIEF ASKS WATER POLICE TO INTENSIFY SECURITY IN OUTERMOST ISLES
Jakarta, Dec. 1 (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Bambang Hendarso Danuri has instructed water police to intensify security in the country's outermost isles.
"Safeguarding the country's border lines and outermost isles are crucial for the security of NKRI (the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia)," General Danuri said at a ceremony to commemorate the 58th anniversary of the Water and Air Police, at Tanjung Priok Port, northern Jakarta, Monday.
For that purpose, the Water Police directorate will send personnel in areas prone to crimes such as poaching by foreigners, according to him.
Besides, the Water Police is also developing six water police regional units throughout Indonesia, he said.
"Hereby, we declare that the development of the six water police regional units will be realized. The water police director will soon prepare an organizational structure and other facilities," he said.
On the occasion, the National Police Chief also inaugurated the operation of a number of facilities and infrastructures, such as five Singapore-made patrol boats, a Command and Information Center (CIC), an air police education center.
General Danuri said the water police would be equipped with modern equipment to support their tasks in safeguarding the country's waters.
He also reminded the water police personnel to be professional in carrying out their tasks of protecting the nation's waters.
