NIRMALA DISAPPOINTED BY EX-EMPLOYER`S TEMPORARY RELEASE

Kupang, Indonesia, Dec. 1 (ANTARA) - Nirmala Bonat (24), an Indonesian maid who was tortured by her Malaysian employer, Yim Pek Ha, said she was disappointed by a Malaysian court ruling releasing Ha from jail on bail pending a higher court verdict on the latter's appeal.

"I was initially satisfied when I heard the news that a Malaysian court had sentenced Yim Pek Ha to 18 years in jail. But, now I am very disappointed because the court has granted a temporary release to my ex-employer. She is now free because she paid bail," Nirmala Bonat told ANTARA by phone on Monday.

Bonat said she had immediately sent a short text message (SMS) to the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur to take legal action to demand material damages from Ma for the abuse she had suffered.

The amount of the material damages should be above RM200,000 because Ha was released after paying a RM200,000 bail, she said.

Yim Pek Ha was sentenced to 18 years' jail on each of three charges of causing grievous hurt to Nirmala, the sentences to run concurrently.

The Malaysian court found her guilty of scorching Nirmala with a hot electric iron and scalding her with hot water in January, March and April 2004, at the Villa Putra condominium in Jalan Tun Ismail here.

However, she was out on RM200,000 bail paid by her husband.
