RI, INDIA AGREE TO STEP UP BILATERAL TRADE
Jakarta, Dec 1 (ANTARAa) - The Indonesian and Indian governments have agreed to increase trade between their two countries from US$6.5 billion to US$10 billion in the years to come.
In a joint press conference with visiting Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil at the State Palace here on Monday, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said India was a country with big economic potentials.
"The trade value between Indonesia and India at present is recorded at US6.5 billion and it can be increased to US$10 billion in the future," Yudhoyono said.
Yudhoyono said Indonesia's doors were wide open to Indian investors intending to sink their capital in the fields of manufacturing, transportation, and renewable energy.
"We will also encourage Indonesian investors to increase their trade activities with partners in India," President Yudhoyono said.
Indian President Patil for her part said her country also wished to increase its trade with Indonesia.
"We would like to step up bilateral cooperation on the basis of the strategic partnership agreement which was signed in 2005, and we also want to increase our trade with Indonesia," the Indian president said.
The two leaders in a meeting earlier on Monday discussed closer bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, youth affairs and sports, agriculture, tourism, and film industry.
