FIRST LADY LEADS WOMEN`S MOVEMENT OF TREE PLANTING AND CARING

Jakarta, Dec. 1 (ANTARA) - First Lady Ani Yudhoyono launched a Women's Movement of Tree Planting and Caring 2008 themed: "Towards Family's Food Resilience" at Ocean Park of Ancol Recreational Center here on Monday.

At the event expected to be followed by similar activities simultaneously throughout Indonesia at 8 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the First Lady planted a breadfruit tree.

She was accompanied by Mrs. Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, wife of Vice President M Jusuf Kalla, Mrs. Ani Freddy Numberi, wife of Marine and Fishery Affairs Minister Numberi, and Erna Witoelar, former environmental affairs minister.

In addition to the tree planting, Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono also sowed 15,000 fingerlings and visited a 'smart house' (library for children).

The Women's Movement of Tree Planting and Caring was initiated by the First Lady in 2007 as part of the country's contribution to reducing the impacts of the global warming.

Coinciding with the Climate Change Conference in Bali in December 2007, she led Indonesian women to plant 10 million trees.

First Lady Kristiani Herrawati Bambang Yudhoyono has won a United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) award for her efforts in encouraging Indonesian women to plant the 10 million trees simultaneously across the country last year.
