Allenby to play in PGA at Coolum

Robert Allenby will fulfil the wishes of his gravely ill mother by committing to Australian golf's two remaining showpiece events.
The Victorian is a confirmed starter for the Australian PGA, which starts on Thursday at Coolum, and the Australian Open, starting the following Thursday at Royal Sydney.

Allenby said he would be trying to win one of the tournaments as a tribute to his
mother Sylvia, who has terminal cancer.
It had been Allenby's dream to win the Australian Masters for his mother, but his
emotions got the better of him at Huntingdale on Sunday when he saw his mum on the
15th hole.
He eventually had to settle for third place, behind winner Rod Pampling and Marcus
Fraser, but will attempt to go better over the next fortnight.
"I will purely be only be going for her," Allenby told Network Ten on Monday.
"Again, I'll be trying to win for her.
"I know I can win one of these two events and it would be pretty special if I did."
Allenby's manager Tony Bouffler said it was too early to say when the golfer would
return to the United States in the new year.
But Allenby confirmed he had grand ambitions on next year's American tour.
"I hope my mum can last until the US Masters (in April) and I can win that for her,"
he said.
Allenby hosted a charity event at Melbourne's Woodlands Golf Club on Monday to raise
money for Challenge, an organisation supporting children with cancer.
He said Sunday's display of emotion had been cathartic given the traumatic period he
and his family had experienced recently.
"I probably got a lot out of my system that I've been holding back for a while," he
said.
"It's a tough thing, it's a tough thing."
