SEVERAL COUNTRIES ASK FOR INDONESIAN AGRICULTURAL INFO OFFICERS

Jakarta, Nov 30 (ANTARA)- Several countries in the Asia-Pacific and African regions have asked the Indonesian government to send its agricultural information officers to help develop their agricultural sector, a minister said.

The request came from Tanzania and Sudan in Africa, the Fiji and Vanuatu in the Pacific, Agriculture Minister Anton Apriyantono said in Cibodas village, Cianjur district, West Java province on Sunday.

"The government will send some agricultural information personnel to these countries," he said on the sidelines of the second jamboree and festival of agriculture information officers, which was opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here.

Other countries also made a similar request after Indonesia's successful agricultural development, he said.

According to him, the stable food prices in Indonesia despite the current global crisis, was one of Indonesia's successes in its agricultural development.

Food prices in Indonesia were believed to be the most stable compared to those in the other ASEAN member countries, prompting the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to extend an appreciation to Indonesia, he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia in 2008 also managed to increase its dried milled rice production to 60.28 million tons as predicted by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), and 12.80 million tons of dried off the cob corn production, the minister said.

In the meantime, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told 4,000 Indonesian agricultural information officers that "Every time of my visits to other countries, they always asked for agricultural information officers."***2***
