ATTORNEY GENERAL: PROSECUTOR URIP WAS SOLE PLAYER
Semarang, Nov 29 (ANTARA) - Attorney General Hendarman Supandji said here on Saturday that prosecutor Urip Tri Gunawan who had been convicted in a US$660,000 bribery case was a sole player.
"According to the result of investigation by the office of deputy attorney general for supervision it is found that Urip plays alone," he said after a national seminar on strategy of improving performance of the prosecutor's office at state University of Diponegoro.
He said during his trial Urip had also confessed that it was him that had initiated the bribery.
Artalyta Suryani alias Ayin who had been convicted of paying the bribe in the Urip case had also confessed that she only had a deal with Urip alone and no others, he said.
"In the court's ruling it was also mentioned that no other officials had recieved a share of the bribe," he said.
Hendarman said no evidence showed distribution of funds to other parties so that he could not process the case further to cover other prosecutors.
He admitted that the dismissal of prosecutors holding positions such as Muhammad Salim, the formcer director of investigation only had to do with credibility.
When asked if he would return the posts formerly held by prosecutors who were later found not involved in the Urip case, he said he was still waiting for a report about it from the deputy attorney general for supervision.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested prosecutor Urip and Ayin in October 2008 for involvement in a bribery case worth UD$660,000.
In connection with the case the courts had ruled to sentence Urip to 20 years and Ayin to five years in jail.
Deputy attorney general Darmono said earlier that based on the result of examination on Ayin it was found that other prosecutors that had been questioned in connection with the case were not involved in it.
"Prosecutors that have been grilled were not involved and therefore there was no need to examine them," he said.
Several prosecutors that have been grilled in connection with the Urip case are Kemas Yahya Rahman (former deputy attorney general for special crimes), Muhammad Salim and 10 other prosecutors in the team handling the 2nd BLBI (Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance) corruption case.
